Klaviyo
Connecting Klaviyo lets you use your Klaviyo lists and segments as CTV targeting audiences in Bronco. Bronco reads from Klaviyo with a read-only key; it doesn't change anything in your Klaviyo account.
Each advertiser connects its own Klaviyo account.
Creating a Klaviyo API key
- In Klaviyo, go to Settings → Account → API Keys and click Create Private API Key.
- Give the key read access to Lists, Segments, and Profiles (
lists:read, segments:read, profiles:read). - Copy the key. It starts with
pk_.
Connecting Klaviyo
- In Bronco, go to Settings → Integrations and click Connect on Klaviyo.
- Choose the Advertiser.
- Paste your Private API Key and click Connect.
Bronco checks the key and its permissions with Klaviyo. If the key is missing a permission, you'll see an error; create a new key with all three and try again.
When the connection succeeds, Bronco shows how many lists and segments it found. Click Choose Lists & Segments to pick the ones you want to use, or Later to do it another time from Settings → Audiences.
Using Klaviyo audiences
Lists and segments you import become audiences you can include or exclude in a strategy, the same way as a custom audience. See Audiences: Web Audiences and Custom Audiences.
A campaign that includes a Klaviyo audience goes live once the audience has finished matching. A campaign that only excludes one isn't held up: the exclusion takes effect on its own once the audience is Ready.
A campaign can't be published while it includes a Klaviyo audience that holds no one, for example a list in which no profile has an email address or a US phone number.
How a Klaviyo audience stays up to date
Bronco syncs every imported list and segment once a day. A sync:
- Adds the people who joined the list or segment since the last sync.
- Removes the people who are no longer in it.
The audience stays Ready while it syncs, and you don't publish your campaigns again.
From each Klaviyo profile, Bronco uses the email address and the phone number, and nothing else. A phone number has to be a US number. A profile with neither is skipped.
People who left the list are removed from the audience at the next sync, and its Users count drops then. How soon they stop seeing ads is the same as for any audience that is kept up to date automatically: see Audiences kept up to date through the API.
Checking on an audience
Go to Settings → Audiences and click a Klaviyo audience to open its details:
- Users is how many people the audience holds: the profiles that have an email address or a US phone number.
- Klaviyo Users is how many profiles the list or segment had at the last sync.
- Sync History lists each sync and how many people it pulled.
Bronco doesn't show how many of them were matched. An audience either has enough matches to be used (Ready) or it doesn't (Not enough matches).
To sync without waiting for the daily run, click Sync Now.
How large a list can be
A list or segment can have up to 2,500,000 profiles. A larger one isn't synced: its status shows Sync failing · Klaviyo, and its details say how many profiles it has. Import a smaller list or segment instead, for example a segment of your most recent or most engaged customers.
When a sync isn't applied
If a daily sync would remove more than half of an audience, Bronco doesn't apply it, in case something went wrong on the way from Klaviyo. The audience keeps the people it had, and its status shows Sync failing · Klaviyo with the reason in its details. If the list really did shrink that much, click Sync Now to apply the change.
The same happens if Klaviyo returns no one with an email address or a US phone number: the audience is left as it was.
If matching fails
If the status is Match failed, there is nothing for you to retry. Your Klaviyo connection is unaffected and Bronco keeps trying on its own. Contact support if it stays that way.
If the list is deleted in Klaviyo
Syncing ends and the status shows Source deleted. Campaigns keep reaching the people the audience last held until you take it off each strategy.
Archiving a Klaviyo audience
Archiving stops syncing and deletes the list from Bronco. It can't be undone, but you can import the list or segment from Klaviyo again as a new audience. Campaigns that already use the audience keep reaching the people who were in it.
After connecting
The connection appears under Connected with your Klaviyo organization name. If it shows Error, the key may have been deleted or changed in Klaviyo. Click Reconnect and enter a valid key.
